Hero sales hit 5.7 lakh in 2026 as exports jump 78%, boosting profits sharply

Hero’s momentum in 2026 is getting hard to ignore

I keep seeing one clear pattern in Hero MotoCorp’s latest monthly numbers: the company is not just holding its ground, it is pushing forward on multiple fronts at once. The May 2026 dispatch figure crossed 5.70 lakh units, and that kind of volume tells me the brand is still deeply connected with everyday Indian buyers.

What stood out most to me was that this growth did not come from just one pocket. Domestic demand stayed strong, exports accelerated sharply, and scooters became a serious growth engine alongside the core motorcycle business.

Domestic demand continues to carry the brand

Hero MotoCorp reported total dispatches of 5,70,068 units in May 2026, up 12.28% from the same month last year. Compared with April 2026, the company also managed a small but useful 0.70% rise, which suggests the business is moving in the right direction without losing momentum.

For me, the domestic story is especially important because this is where Hero’s scale really shows. India accounted for 5,36,784 units in May 2026, which means the brand continued to rely heavily on its home market while still improving year on year by 9.77%.

Motorcycles remain the backbone, but scooters are stealing attention

Even now, motorcycles are still Hero’s strongest pillar. The company sold 5,03,763 motorcycles in May 2026, making up 88.37% of total volumes, and that alone shows how powerful its commuter base remains in India.

At the same time, I think the more exciting storyline is scooters. Sales climbed to 66,305 units, more than doubling from the previous year, and that kind of growth changes the conversation around Hero’s portfolio mix. It tells me the brand is reaching buyers who want practical everyday mobility, but in a format that feels more convenient for urban use.

Hero MotoCorp May 2026 sales snapshot Units / Growth
Total dispatches 5,70,068 units, up 12.28% YoY
Domestic sales 5,36,784 units, up 9.77% YoY
Exports 33,284 units, up 77.95% YoY
Motorcycles 5,03,763 units, up 6.02% YoY
Scooters 66,305 units, up 103.78% YoY
VIDA registrations 19,052 VAHAN registrations, 166% growth

Exports are becoming a bigger part of the story

I always pay close attention when an Indian two-wheeler maker starts posting sharp export growth, because it usually signals wider product acceptance. Hero MotoCorp exported 33,284 units in May 2026, which was a huge 77.95% jump from 18,704 units in May 2026.

That rise matters even more because it shows the brand is no longer depending only on the Indian market to build scale. The slight month-on-month dip from April is not a concern in my view; the bigger takeaway is that international demand is now contributing meaningfully to Hero’s overall performance.

VIDA keeps building the electric side

Hero’s electric mobility push also deserves attention. VIDA recorded 19,052 VAHAN registrations in May 2026, and that points to a strong 166% retail growth over the same period last year.

I see that as a sign that Hero is not treating EVs like a side project anymore. The retail rollout of the DIRT.E K3 in select markets adds another layer to the brand’s strategy, especially because younger buyers now expect more variety in design, usage and product positioning.

Why the April-to-May trend matters

Month-on-month, Hero’s domestic sales improved by 0.82%, while motorcycle volumes stayed broadly stable with a 0.39% rise. Scooter sales, however, grew 3.13% over April 2026, and that is the kind of detail I find interesting because it points to changing customer preference rather than just broad market expansion.

For the first two months of FY2026-27, Hero MotoCorp has already reported 11,36,154 units, which is a 39.73% jump over the same period last year. Domestic sales rose to 10,69,217 units, and exports nearly doubled to 66,937 units, which tells me the new financial year has started on a very strong note.

What this means for Indian buyers

From an Indian market perspective, Hero’s numbers matter because the brand still defines the commuter segment for millions of riders. When I see strong motorcycle volumes, fast-growing scooters, and expanding exports all in the same month, I read that as a sign of a company with real operating strength.

It also suggests that Hero is balancing its legacy identity with a more modern product mix. The strong response to premium motorcycles, the Deluxe 125cc range, and new models like the Super Splendor XTEC 2.0 shows that the brand is trying to stay relevant across both entry-level and upgraded commuter buyers.

My take on the month ahead

If this momentum continues, Hero could keep widening the gap in high-volume two-wheeler sales while also building a stronger export and EV story. I think the next few months will be crucial for seeing whether scooter growth and VIDA registrations can keep rising at this pace.

For now, this is a positive update for anyone tracking India’s two-wheeler market. If you follow commuter bikes, scooters or EVs closely, I’d keep watching Hero’s monthly numbers because they are showing a much broader growth story than just one strong sales headline.

If you want to stay ahead of the Indian auto market, keep an eye on Hero’s next sales update, because the mix of domestic demand, export strength and EV growth is starting to look genuinely important.
