Mazda sold 39,066 vehicles in May 2026, up 40.2% from a year ago. That surge nearly erased the brand’s rough start, even though year-to-date sales still sit at 164,667, down 6.9%.

The CX-50 is taking the spotlight fast

That breadth matters because it shows Mazda is not being saved by one model alone. The brand’s SUV portfolio is pulling in buyers across multiple price points, and the CX-50 hybrid adds another layer of appeal with an estimated 38 mpg combined versus 26 mpg for the gas version.

Mazda’s cars quietly added fuel too

The SUVs grabbed the headlines, but Mazda’s sedans helped too. The Mazda3 posted its best month since 2021 with 4,121 total sales, up 68% month over month and 13.4% for the year.

That matters because affordable cars are still doing real work for the brand. Certified pre-owned sales were also strong at 7,992, up 7.2% year over year, which suggests Mazda is reaching buyers who are watching value just as closely as style.
